Isaac McMillan is a friendly guy who loves working with people. He's been in the accounting industry since 2017 and has quickly become one of the most down to earth professionals in the team. Isaac may have only been at SHB for a couple of years, but he loves working at SHB. His clients are his number one priority and Isaac loves helping them in any way possible. "It's incredibly satisfying to be able to guide clients and put them on the path to financial success. Plus, I'm a huge fan of crunching numbers and analyzing data; there's nothing quite like it!"

You could describe Isaac as a generalist, but he is particularly knowledgeable when it comes to budgeting and forecasting for small businesses. "It's incredibly important for business owners to be able to anticipate where their spending is going and plan accordingly; so if you're looking for help with that, I'm your guy!"

Isaac is a wealth of knowledge and his advice for anyone who is thinking about starting a new business is to research your market, estimate your break even targets and pricing, determine business structures, and back yourself. "It's also important to remember that there will be challenges along the way; but if you stay focused and keep pushing, it'll all be worth it in the end."

There can be a lot to organise when running your own business, but Isaac thinks the main thing that people get wrong from the start is not having a cloud based accounting system in place, and being too reliant on bank statements and excel. "Not that it’s required, but once your small business grows it can get difficult to keep track of all income and expenses, making you spend extra time and resources gathering all the correct info."
